Apart from the demands of growth in the City, there is also the looming Olympic Games next year which will put pressure on the transport system. This applies particularly to Upper and Lower Thames Streets which will be kept clear for the movement of Olympic dignitaries. The objective of the City of London “is to keep central London ticking over.”

While the major institutions feature so much in the performance of the Square Mile, there is also a need to support small businesses with 85% with City businesses employing less than 50 people. The City is looking to support these businesses through promoting new initiatives such as the Government backed Innovation Warehouse scheme and through introducing guidance packs for SMEs setting up in the City.
